On Keeping The Pandemic Philosophy

Stake your claim to slowing down and enjoying life more

I have to admit, the state of affairs is getting to me. I didn’t notice it until now, being solitary and all.

Not everyone enjoys their own company, nor does everyone have the desire to wallow in relative isolation to feel the benefits of solitude. I, however, am grateful that the whole world was forced to slow down. Finally, the world matched my normal, desired pace.

It suddenly became okay to stay home and enjoy it. Acceptable.

I suddenly became acceptable.

Let me be clear, I want this pandemic to go away. It’s frightening not just because of the risk to physical health and safety, but also because of the mental and emotional devastation that can come as a result of isolation from others.

But in my own life, that sense of solitude has been a gift. I find great joy and comfort being by myself and with those in my tiny circle.

Sure, I miss friends. A few in particular. There may be a shred of regret that I don’t keep in contact with them. It’s mixed with what feels a bit like “them’s fighting words”- I want to protect and keep it acceptable to not be ‘social’ in the norm that we are used to.
